COURTNEY MATLOCK recorded 14 kills while
HAYLEY MERRILL and
REBECCA MATASKER each added 12 as Montclair State picked up its 20
th win of the season with a 3-1 win over New York University at the Panzer Athletic Center on Friday evening.
Sophomore Ashley Griffth put up 46 assists as the Red Hawks knocked off the Violets (14-12) for the first time in 15 all-time meetings. MSU dropped the first set 25-23 before identical 25-20 victories in the next two sets. Montclair then held off three set points before closing out the match with 28-26 triumph.
MSU, which has reached the 20-win mark for the fifth time in program history, received seven kills and a pair of blocks from sophomore
NATALIA MAJKUT.
APRIL DIANGELO served five aces while
DANIELLE OLCESE and
LILY SCANZILLO had 19 and 10 digs respectively.
In the fourth set, Montclair trailed 24-23 when tied things up with a kill. Rayne Ellis put NYU back on top however her next serve hit the net forging a 25-25 deadlock. MSU quickly gave that back with a service error but Merrill kept things going with a kill. DiAngelo collected an ace to give the Red Hawks the lead which turned into a victory as the Violets committed an attack error on match point.
Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, October 25 when it hosts New Jersey City University at 7:00 pm.
