Montclair, NJ – Senior
COURTNEY MATLOCK recorded 15 kills, including the 1000
th of her career leading Montclair State to a four-set win over New Jersey City University at the Panzer Athletic Center on Tuesday evening.
LEAH STINE and
HAYLEY MERRILL had nine kills apiece for the Red Hawks, who improved to 21-7 after registering a 25-13, 24-26, 25-10, 25-9 win against the Gothic Knights (13-13, 0-8 NJAC).
Montclair also clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NJAC Tournament which begins on Tuesday, November 1. The Red Hawks will host No. 6 seed Rutgers-Newark at 7:00 pm in a first-round contest.
Matlock became the fifth player in program history and the first since Kara Burnham and Anna Chesnakova each got there in 2009. Matlock, who hit .481 on the evening, needed just two entering Tuesday's match and got it quickly knocking down a set from sister
KIMBERLY MATLOCK for a 3-1 lead in the first set.
KIMBERLY MATLOCK finished with 30 assists and seven digs while
REBECCA MATASKER had four kills and six blocks.
DANIELLE OLCESE got 13 digs with
MELISSA TERPSTRA posting a pair of kills, an ace and four digs. The Matlocks, Olcese, Stine, Terpstra and Matasker were all honored prior to the game on Senior Night.
Montclair closes out its regular season this weekend at the New York Regional Challenge which will be held at Hunter College on Friday and Saturday, October 28-29. The Red Hawks face University of Rochester on Friday at 4:00 pm. MSU will then face Buffalo State and RIT on Saturday at 10:30 and 2:30 pm, respectively.
