Ewing, NJ – The Montclair State men's and women's swimming diving teams dropped their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener as the Red Hawks fell at perennial conference contender The College of New Jersey.
Both teams are now 2-2 (0-1 NJAC) after the men fell 189-102 while the while suffered a 178-108 loss to the Lions.
COURTNEY MUNRO won a pair of events sweeping the long distance freestyle events. Munro captured the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:12.10 before coming back to win the 500 free at 5:29.26.
MARGAUX WINCHOCK was victorious in the 100 freestyle (56.29 seconds) with freshman
CLAIRE LUIGARD taking the top spot in the 200 IM clocking in at 2:16.68.
On the men's side,
DAN KNEPPLE made it a sweep of the 1000 free for MSU with a time of 10:15.38.
JAMES SINGEWALD placed first in the 200 backstroke posting a time of 1:59.81.
Elsewhere,
ERIN CANNON was second in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes with times of 1:03.82 and 2:18.00, respectively. Luigard did the same in the breaststroke posting a time of 55.27 in the 100 and 2:33.19 in the 200 event. Winchock was second in the 200 butterfly (2:27.30) and the three teamed with
CHRISTINA CUSMANO for second in the 200 medley relay (1:57.78).
MADISON FRANKE had two second-place showings in the 200 freestyle (2:04.04) and the 50 free (25.76).
For the men, Singewald took second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.27 seconds while
KEVIN HENNINGSEN swam 2:03.16 to finish second in the 200 butterfly.
CHARLES COBBERTT posted a time of 22.68 in the 50 free for second place with
STEVEN ROTH going 53.12 seconds in the 100 fly for second. Singewald added another second-place finish in the 200 IM registering a time of 2:02.89.
Montclair is now off until Saturday, November 12 when it makes its first appearance at the Panzer Pool. The Red Hawks will host College of Staten Island at Noon.
