No. 15 Field Hockey Edges WPU for Third Straight Win, 3-2

Butrico Two Goals, Assist for 9-3 Red Hawks

Wayne, NJ – Senior forward DANIELLE BUTRICO scored twice and assisted on the other goal as Montclair State erased an early one-goal deficit in a 3-2 win over local rival William Paterson on Wednesday evening.

Senior MEGAN ROELOFFS scored for the Red Hawks, who posted their third consecutive victory. MSU is now 9-3 overall, 2-0 in NJAC play and defeated WPU for the seventh consecutive meeting. Montclair is 48-23-4 all-time against the Pioneers.

William Paterson scored first as Carly Satter finished off a pass from Shannon Super at the left post with 19:33 left in the first half. The Red Hawks came close to tying the game a little over two minutes later but Roeloffs' shot was knocked away by defender Meghin Stanton.

Butrico tied the game at the 27:56 mark with her second goal off a flurry in front of the cage. AMBER HASLETT go the assist for MSU, which then took the lead 65 seconds later on another goal by Butrico, who combined with Haslett again after the Pioneers failed to clear the ball out of the circle.

Roeloffs extended the lead to 3-1 before the half with her second goal, a blast from the top of the circle off a corner insert from Butrico.

MARISSA SICONOLFI kept the lead at two goals with a defensive save in the 54th minute which proved to be huge as the Pioneers closed the gap to 3-2 on a goal from Stanton, who collected her third of the year off a broken penalty corner.

WPU keeper Mallory Rickerhauser made a save against ALEXIS AMBROSINO and the Red Hawks got a bit of bad luck as Haslett's shot with 3:07 left hit the post. The luck would come back to MSU in the closing seconds as the Pioneers earned a corner with 17 ticks to go. Michaela Meillier fired a shot with three seconds left however that ball clanged off the post allowing Montclair to escape with the victory.

KAITLIN MAGUIRE made one save for Montclair, which outshot the Pioneers 9-7. William Paterson out-cornered MSU, 11-6
