Women's Soccer Win Streak Snapped by Rowan

Sansone Scores Two in Red Hawk Loss

Glassboro, NJ – Unbeaten Rowan University scored two goals five minutes apart in the second half which turned out to be the difference as the Profs snapped Montclair State's six-match winning streak with a 3-2 win on Saturday evening.
Danni Kitzinger and Maxine New each found the back of the net as the Profs improved to 12-0-1 on the season, 4-0-1 in the NJAC.

Freshman RYELLE SANSONE scored both goals for the Red Hawks, who were on the wrong end of the scoreboard for the first time since September 14. MSU is now 10-2-1 on the year, 4-1 in the conference.

Rowan took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute as Catheryn McCarry scored off a rebound. Megan McKinley fired the original shot that was stopped by ALYSON BURNS. The carom came back out to McCarry who collected the game's first goal.

MSU quickly answered as Sansone scored the first of her two goals. Off a Rowan foul, ERIN SULLIVAN served a free kick which found its way onto the head of Sansone who flicked the ball into the back of the net with 6:20 to play before halftime.
Knotted at 1-1, Kitzinger put the Profs back in front with shot just inside the box with 35:58 left. Rowan added to the lead 4:48 later as New scored with a shot from outside the box into the top right corner of the goal.

Burns made two saves against Lauren Coletti and Morgan Myers in the 75th minute keeping the game within reach before Sansone pulled Montclair within a 3-2 with 14:12 to go. TYLER MADISON collected the assist.  However, MSU could not get any closer as the Profs held the Red Hawks without a shot for the remainder of the game.

Burns made seven saves for the Red Hawks who were outshot in the game 12-7.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, October 12 hosting William Paterson University at MSU Soccer Park beginning at 7:00 pm.
