SAGE BENNETT scored seven of her 13 points in the fourth quarter as Montclair State pulled away in the final period for a 61-46 win over Williams in the host's Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday.
Junior
KATIE SIRE collected six of her 14 in the fourth as MSU turned one-point lead into a 15-point victory upping its record to 2-0. Montclair faces Hamilton College on Sunday, November 20 in the Williams Tip-Off at 1:00 pm.
The Red Hawks led 39-38 going into the fourth, but found its shooting touch connecting on 8-of-12 attempts from the floor, including 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Meanwhile the Ephs (0-1) were just 3-of-11 and misfired on all seven of its three-point attempts.
Sire scored the first basket of the period and Bennett hit twice from the line making the score 45-38. After two free throws by Williams,
KIARRA DILLARD drilled a three-pointer and Sire later followed with back-to-back baskets giving Montclair a 50-40 lead with 4:08 to play.
The Ephs cut it back under double digits however Bennett and freshman
ALEX MCKINNON delivered consecutive dagger-like three pointers extending the Red Hawks advantage to 56-42 with 1:49 remaining.
Bennett and Sire each grabbed six rebounds while
RACHAEL KRAUSS chipped in with 11 points and three rebounds. McKinnon had seven points with
KATE TOBIE scoring six points along with four assists and two steals.
