LINDSAY LARE scored four times while classmates Avianna Paraggio and
FRANCESCA VERRONE each adding two as Montclair State knocked off Drew University 10-6 in its season opener on Tuesday afternoon.
Goalkeepers
REBECCA MYERS and
ALEXANDRA TEPPER combined on seven saves helping the Red Hawks to fourth consecutive opening day win.
The teams traded the first eight goals of the game with the Rangers' Maddie Spiess opening the second period with her third tally knotting the contest at 4-4 with 26:47 remaining. Verrone gave Montclair the lead less than a minute later and Lare's second with 23:07 to play put the Red Hawks up 6-4.
From there the teams alternated on goals again with Speiss connecting again with 14:35 left as Drew pulled within 7-6. Paraggio then came up with a huge goal for the Red Hawks scoring a short-handed goal with 11:06 left to get MSU in front by two. Paraggio finished off a feed from Verrone two minutes later for a 9-6 lead. Lare capped off her first game for MSU with her third goal with 7:31 remaining.
Verrone had four draws with
KASEY MAGUIRE and
KARA CRAMPTON getting two each as MSU outshot rew 24-15 Verrone and Maguire also forced a pair of turnovers each and finished with five and three ground balls, respectively.
Montclair State returns home for a pair of weekend games at Sprague Field. MSU will face College at Brockport on Saturday, February 27 at 12pm and take on Fredonia on Sunday, February 27 at 3:00 pm.
