SERENA HITCHINS had a goal and two assists as Montclair State made it a successful trip to the West Coast with a 9-6 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College on Friday afternoon.

KARA CRAMPTON and
ALEXA DIPIERO each scored twice as the Red Hawks improved to 3-2 in the farthest game away from home since 2001.
Hitchins sparked a five-goal run by Montclair bridging the two halves after CMS grabbed a 1-0 lead just 45 seconds into the game. Hitchins tied the game with23:16 left in the first and
AVIANA PARAGGIO scored 41 seconds after that giving the Red Hawks the lead. The game then went scoreless for the next 19 minutes before Hitchins fed Crampton on a goal with 3:53 to play as MSU led 3-1 at halftime.
Crampton opened the scoring in the second half scoring 1:12 into the period with
FRANCESCA VERRONE following four seconds off the draw for a 5-1 MSU advantage. That time differential tied the NCAA Division III record for fastest consecutive goals by the same team which was set by Montclair State on April 11, 2006 when Ann Daily tallied both against Manhattanville.
Cara Cancelmo ended the run however goals 10 seconds apart from DiPiero and Lare, respectively restored the lead to 7-2. Claremont-Mudd Scrips battled back with four goals in a nine-minute span, the last by Kendall Greenberg, whose second consecutive tally made the score 7-6 with 6:53 to play.
Lare countered for MSU scoring her second with 5:29 left and DiPiero added the final score with 2:56 remaining.
Verrone added three draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls while
MEREDITH KING led MSU with five ground balls in addition to matching Verrone with three caused turnovers.
ALEXANDRA TEPPER made nine saves for the Red Hawks.
Friday's game marked the third time that the Red Hawks played in California. Montclair lost to Whittier 13-9 and beat University of Redlands 11-10 in 1999. Two years later, MSU took both games with a 12-11 win versus Whittier and 14-1 triumph over Redlands.
After trekking nearly 3,000 miles for Friday's contest, Montclair State will remain on the road however the next trip will be much shorter. MSU will travel 15-plus miles to Hoboken on Wednesday, March 16 to face Stevens at 4:00 pm.
