Men's Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against #14 Denison, 10-9

Finn Scores Four as Red Hawks Drop Third Straight

Baltimore, MD – Senior ZACH SCHRECK and junior DON FINN each scored inside the final five minutes however Montclair State's comeback came up a goal short as the Red Hawks fell to #14 Denison University at the Coopermine Field House on Saturday afternoon.

Finn scored four times for Montclair State with Schreck and CONNOR CUNNINGHAM each finding the back of the net twice but it couldn't prevent MSU from a third straight loss dropping the Red Hawks to 1-5 on the season.

Blair Farinholt scored twice and assisted on two others for Denison which improved to 4-1 on the year.

Finn put Montclair on the board midway through the first quarter before Denison tallied the final two goals, including a man-up tally by Farinholt with 3:25 left for a one-goal lead after one.  Jamie McCahan extended the lead early in the second before back-to-back goals from Cunningham and BRETT MANGAN knotted the score at 3-3.

Rooney sandwiched a pair of goals around James Meager's score giving Denison at 6-3 lead. Finn collected his second with 2:13 to play as Montclair trailed 6-4 at halftime.
Denison would pull in front 8-5 with 5:40 left in the third as Meager scored his second. Finn answered for MSU and Schreck set up Cunningham for a goal with 11:41 in the fourth pulling the Red Hawks within 8-7. Farinholt would help Denison pull out to a 10-7 lead scoring once and setting up the second for the three-goal lead with 7:19 left.

Schreck tallied with exactly five minutes to play and Finn tallied with 2:30 to go making the score 10-9. MSU would get one final chance to tie however Finn's shot with 65 seconds left went wide.

Blasé Mantineo was 15-of-20 on faceoffs for the day while defenseman RYAN YOUNG had a pair of caused turnovers along with four ground balls. RYAN TOTIN and ANDREW MONAHAN had two caused turnovers apiece.Freshman JACK CARDEW, making his first career start, stopped eight shots.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Wednesday, March 16 with a 4;00 pm matchup against Muhlenberg College at Sprague Field.
