Maguire's Goal in Third OT Propels Women's Lacrosse Over Stevens, 10-9

Lare Records Hat Trick as MSU Wins Second Straight

Hoboken, NJ – Senior KASEY MAGUIRE scored four times, including the game-winner with 3:46 remaining in the second overtime as Montclair State rallied for a 10-9 victory over Stevens at the DeBaun Athletic Complex on Wednesday.

Junior LINDSAY LARE added a hat trick as MSU (4-2) bounced back from a three-goal deficit in the first half to post its second consecutive victory. It was the fourth consecutive win in the series by the Red Hawks as they are now 8-12 against their non-conference, in-state rival.

Maguire put Montclair State in front 2-1 with 16:33 to play in the first half before Stevens (3-2) scored the next four goals, taking a 5-2 lead on Erika Wilcox's goal with 4:39 left. Lare scored inside the final minute as the Red Hawks trailed by two at halftime.

Wilcox opened the scoring in the second half and Cami Santor's goal with 25:37 remaining gave the Ducks a 7-4 lead before MSU tallied the next three to tie the game. ALEXA DIPIERO and SERENA HITCHINS each registered a goal and Maguire's second with 10:40 knotted the contest with 7-7.

Wilcox put Stevens back in front two minutes later however that was answered by Lare with 7:35 left. Santor continued the back and forth with a goal at the 24:43 mark of the second half before Maguire tied things up again for the fifth time with an unassisted tally with 3:28 to go.

Each team would get chances in the extra periods. Maguire was stopped by  Stephanie Schnelzer with 3:23 seconds left in the first OT period and Schnelzer came up big again later on denying FRANCESCA VERRONE on a free-position attempt.  Wilcox got off two shots in the final 22 seconds however each went wide.

Stevens would win the draw in the second OT and nearly one the game in the first 30 seconds as Caroline DeLuca got a shot on goal. But the attempt was saved by MSU keeper Rebecca Meyers who thwarted a Wilcox shot with 4:52 to play. MSU regained possession and this time found the game-winner as Maguire netted her fourth with 3:46 remaining.

Maguire added three draws and forced three turnovers for the Red Hawks. ALEXANDRA TEPPER and Myers stopped four shots each.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, March 19 host Muhlenberg College at Sprague Field beginning at 3:00 pm.
