KEITH MURPHY doubled home two runs to give Montclair State the lead as the Red Hawks scored four times in the eighth inning for an 8-6 win at Moravian College on Thursday afternoon .
Junior centerfielder
PHILIP SCOTT went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs as MSU won its fourth straight game improving to 8-6 on the season.
Sophomore second baseman
JOE FOOTE and Scott each drove in a run in the seventh inning when Montclair snapped a 2-2 tie. The Greyhounds answered in its half with four runs taking the lead for the first time. Mike Mitti drove in a pair of runs and Cameron Leon plated another on a bunt single making the score 6-4.
Reliever
TAYLOR PARSONS came on to record the final out setting up the Red Hawks' eighth-inning scoring explosion which all came with two out. An error on a ground ball kept the inning alive and put runners on the corners for MSU.
RYAN LONG singled back through the middle cutting the deficit to one. Following a wild pitch, Murphy smacked a double scoring Long and
KEVIN CAMPBELL putting MSU back on top 7-6. Scott singled scoring Murphy for the two-run advantage.
Parsons made that stand as he retired the side in order in the eighth and then tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up the victory, his second of the year (2-1).
DONALD CUSICK went the first six innings allowing two runs (one earned) and seven hits. He struck out two and walked one.
Foote was 4-for-5 in the game with
IAN LYNCH going 2-for-5 including an RBI in the second that tied the game at 1-1.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, March 26 with a doubleheader at College of Staten Island beginning at Noon. It will be the first meeting between the Red Hawks and Dolphins since May 1994.
