IAN LYNCH drove in a pair of runs while sophomore righthander
CONNOR LINDSAY pitched five scoreless inning as Montclair State snapped its three-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over Purchase College on Thursday.
KEITH MURPHY had three hits for MSU which pushed across runs in the first and last inning of the game to even its record at 9-9.
Montclair scored three times in the first inning plating the first run three batters into the contest. Murphy led off with a single and stole second before scoring on an RBI single by
JOE FOOTE.
PHILIP SCOTT walked before Lynch singled into left field for a 2-0 MSU lead. Catcher
AARON KANE lofted a sacrifice fly for the final run of the inning.
That would be more than enough for Lindsay (1-0) who allowed just a hit and two walks. He struck out two and faced three batters over the minimum as he picked up his first career win.
SEAN THOMAS pitched two scoreless innings before
JAY GORMAN closed out the game in the ninth.
Purchase (6-12) would score a run in the bottom of the eighth however the Red Hawks added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth on consecutive sac flies by Scott and Lynch for the 5-1 margin.
The Red Hawks return home for their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, April 2. Montclair hosts Stockton University in a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 am.
