Verrone, Orban Help Women's Lacrosse Roll Past Farmingdale State, 14-5

Hitchins, Lare Two Goals Each as MSU Wins Second Straight

Montclair, NJ –Junior FRANCESCA VERRONE and sophomore CHELSEA ORBAN each scored four goals as Montclair State rolled to its second straight victory with a 14-5 win over Farmingdale State at Sprague Field on Thursday evening.

SERENA HITCHINS and LINDSAY LARE each collected a pair of goals as the Red Hawks improved to 6-3 on the season while upping its record against its former Skyline Conference foe to 11-4 with wins in each of the last four meetings.

Janisha Sanchez and Kristen Keller had two goals apiece for Farmingdale State (1-7), which lost its sixth straight contest.

Sanchez scored the first goal of the game 1:28 however Montclair State tallied the next six goals. Verrone scored 17 seconds after the Sanchez goal and tallied again with 26:21 giving the Red Hawks the lead. KASEY MAGUIRE scored 27 seconds later and Orban's first goal with 22:07 to go made the score 4-2.  Lare and Hitchins closed out the run as MSU led 6-1 with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

Brittany Rosino stopped the run scoring with 5:32 to play making the score 6-2 however Verrone scored again with 29 ticks to go before halftime as MSU took a 7-2 advantage into the break.

Orban opened the scoring in the second half finishing off a feed from Verrone 35 seconds into the new half. Verrone would score two minutes later as the Montclair lead grew to 9-2. A goal by Sanchez cut the deficit to six however MSU added the next six goals to take a 14-3 lead with five minutes left. Orban, the NJAC Rookie of the Week, had two goals and an assist in the run.

REBECCA MYERS stopped seven shots for Montclair State which got five draws and two ground balls from Maguire. Orban had three draws with Verrone, Lare and LAYAL ISSA forcing three turnovers apiece. ALEXA DIPIERO and MEREDITH KING recorded two caused turnovers and four ground balls each.

Montclair returns to action on Saturday, April 2 with its final non-conference contests. The Red Hawks will be in Madison, NJ to face FDU-Florham at 1:00 pm.
