Ursinus Pulls Away from Men's Lacrosse in Fourth, 12-7

Red Hawks Suffer Second Straight Loss; Wulster Hat Trick

Montclair, NJ – Senior midfielder Colin Sullivan scored with 9:28 remaining igniting a five-goal game-ending run by Ursinus College as the Bears knocked off Montclair State, 12-7 at Sprague Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore attack Ian Desenberg scored four times and added an assist as Ursinus won for the third time in four outings on the year (3-1). Sophomore midfielder Gerard Brown had a goal and four assists for the Bears.

Junior attack BRADY WULSTER scored three times while BRETT MANGAN added two goals and two assists for the Red Hawks (1-4), who lost their second straight contest. CONNOR CUNNINGHAM recorded three assists for MSU.

Desenberg scored on a man-up possession early in the first quarter that turned out to be the only goal of the opening period. Connor Fitzgerald pushed the lead to 2-0 with 10:11 to go in the second before the Red Hawks answered with the next two scores.  Mangan fed Wulster in front of the net with 8:14 left and then scored 10 seconds later off a feed from STEVE DANYLUK, who scooped up the ground ball off the face off.

Brown put the Bears back in front with just over six minutes to play firing in a pass from Desenberg. The two reversed roles with 1:56 to play before halftime with Desenberg getting his second man-up goal helping Ursinus to a 4-2 lead at the break.

Montclair State started the second half strong with three goals in the first five minutes to take its only lead of the contest. Cunningham assisted on ZACH SCHRECK's power-play tally 27 seconds into the third and ALEX HAHN knotted the score at 4-4 on a goal with 11:08 remaining. Mangan set up Wulster at the five-minute mark of the period giving MSU a 6-5 advantage.

Desenberg countered for Ursinus with two goals in a 51-second span pushing the Bears back on top as Ursinus led 6-5 heading into the fourth. Matthew Cioeta widened the gap to two goals with an unassisted tally with 13:50 left. Wulster scored a minute later with Mangan recording his second goal with 10:40 to go tying the game at 7-7.

Sullivan began the run for Ursinus with 9:28 left as he finished off a fee from Steve Mussoline. Fitzgerald added a goal 72 seconds later and a goal by Logan Panaccione on the man-up gave the Bears at 10-7 lead with 6:26 left. Tucker Noel and Cioeta registered the final two goals.

Brian Neff had six saves for the Bears while James Fairchild was 10-of-18 on faceoffs with four ground balls. Anthony Torello tied Torello for team honors in ground balls picking up four.

Defenseman RYAN YOUNG forced three turnovers and added five ground balls. Danyluk led all Red Hawks with six ground balls with ANDREW MONAHAN added two caused turnovers. LUCAS JONES stopped seven shots for MSU.

Montclair State will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday, March 12 as it heads to Baltimore, MD. The Red Hawks will face #xx Denison University at the Coppermine Field Complex at 2:00 pm.
