DOM LAMPASONA hit a walk-off single scoring
KEVIN ALONSO in the bottom of the 11th inning as Montclair State earned a split of its home-and-home series with local rival William Paterson in a 3-2 victory at Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday afternoon.

PHILIP SCOTT each had two hits and an RBI for Montclair, which rebounded from a 12-4 loss to the Pioneers in Wayne on Thursday. The Red Hawks also got back to the .500 mark at 13-13 overall, 4-4 in the NJAC. Victor Sanchez and Anthony Hoagland each drove in a run for William Paterson (15-12, 4-4 NJAC).
MSU junior
DONALD CUSICK and William Paterson sophomore Mario Danza each posted solid performances on the mound into the ninth inning however each righthander came away with a no-decision after the Pioneers scored twice in the ninth inning for force the extra frames.
Montclair State scored its two runs in the third inning.
AARON KANE and
JUSTIN EPIFANIOled off the inning with singles and both moved up a base after
RYAN LONG laid down a sacrifice bunt.
MATT LONG walked to load the bases before Foote lined a single scoring Kane with the game's first run. Scott followed with a base hit to right brining in Epifanio giving MSU a 2-0 lead. Danza escaped any further damage with a double-play grounder which would later prove important.
Cusick made that lead hold blanking the Pioneers until the ninth when WPU put together its rally. K.C. Abel led off with a walk and Mike Knauf followed with a single. Able stole third and Jimmy Kenny was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no one out. Hoagland singled scoring the first run for the Pioneers. Righthander
TAYLOR PARSONS relieved Cusick and struck out the first batter but Sanchez lofted a sacrifice fly to center delivering pinch-runner Justin Ferreira with the tying run. Parsons walked the next hitter but got a ground out to end the inning.Â
The Red Hawks put a runner on in the ninth as Alonso singled. Bryan Kopko entered the game and allowed a sacrifice bunt before gettting the next two hitters on fly balls sending the game into extra innings.
Parsons and Kopko each pitched a scoreless 10th to keep the game going. Sanchez would reach with one out in the 11th for the Pioneers but was stranded as Parsons got a ground out and pop up to end the threat. MSU's winning rally started with an opposite-field flare single by Scott to left field. Kopko pounced on an attemepted sacrifice and threw to second however the throw went high an the Red Hawks had the winning run in scoring position.
RYAN THIEME was hit by a pitch to load the bases and William Paterson got a force play at home for the first out.
Lampasona was called on to pinch hit and, after taking the first pitch, lined a shot into right-center for the game-winning run.
Parson got the win as he improved to 3-2. He struck out two and walked two while giving up a hit in three innings. Kopko (3-1) got the loss with two hits and a run allowed in 2 1/3 inings. Kopko struck out one and walked one. Cusick gave up six hits, struck out file while Danza walked three and fanned one in addition to allowing eight hits in his eight innings of work.
The Red Hawks are on the road on Saturday, April 16 with a doubleheader at Rowan University beginning at 11:30 am.
