Camden, NJ - Senior
BROOKE POWERS homered, drove in three runs and picked up the victory in the cirlce as Montclair State earned a split of its doubleheader with Rutgers-Camden on Saturday. Montclair (17-11, 3-7 NJAC) dropped the first game 6-3 before coming back for a 12-3 win in the second contest.
After falling short in the opener, MSU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second contest. Powers accounted for two of those runs with one swing of the bat.
ALANA LUNA added an RBI single that scored
LIA STAMILE giving the Red Hawks the three-run cushion.
Montclair would erupt for five runs in the second. Powers stroked a run-scoring single for the first run with Stamile plating two more on a double to right. Luna followed with a two-run double extending the Red Hawks lead to 8-0.
The offensive on slaught continued in the fifth with five run.
LAUREN BOOTH began things with an RBI single and Luna was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded forcing home another run.
ALI WALEK drove in the final two runs with a single.Â
Rutgers-Camden three times in the bottom of the fifth before Powers (7-5) closed out her seventh win of the year. The righthander allowed eight hits and struck out one. Brittany Scott took the loss for the Scarlet Raptors (14-12, 5-5 NJAC).Â
Powers went 3-for-3 at the plate to pace a 15-hit MSU attack. Walek was 3-for-4 with
VICTORIA GEHRING,
NOEL HODGINS, Stamile and Luna all recording a pair of hits.
In the opener, Powers gave MSU a 1-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly however Rutgers-Camden answered with two runs in its half to take the lead. Montclair tied the game in the fourth when Powers scored on an error but again the Raptors answered with four runs in its half to grab a 6-2 lead.
SCHYLER EDWARDS had an RBI single for the final Montclair State run.
Righthander
SAM KEATING (7-5) took the loss for the Red Hawks.
Montclair State returns to action on Sunday, April 17 hosting College of Staten Island at the MSU Softball Stadium. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
