KAITLYN STRUSS scored a pair of goals as 10
th-ranked Montclair State put together another dominating performance as the Red Hawks shut down and shut out Misericordia University at Sprague Field on Saturday.
AMBER HASLETT and
HANNAH BOLLINGER each had a goal for the Red Hawks, who are off to a 5-0 start for the second time in four years.
Bollinger recorded her second goal of the season cleaning up a loose ball in front on the right side at the 15:19 mark. Haslett gave the Red Hawks a two-goal lead late in the half as she put back a rebound for her team-leading eighth goal of the season.
Struss scored twice in a 10-minute span during the second half that put the game away. Her first goal came at 40:51 as she tipped in a shot by
CAMILLE MAIMONE, who got the assists on the penalty corner opportunity. She would later knock in a pass from
MEGAN ROELOFFS for her sixth goal of the year.
The two goals pushed Struss over the 90-point mark in her career as she moved into third place on the all-time scoring list with 91 points in her two-plus seasons with the Red Hawks.
KAITLIN MAGUIRE made one save and recorded her first career shutout.
MSU outshot the Cougars (1-4), 25-1 while taking all 20 penalty corners in the game.
Montclair State is back at Sprague Field on Wednesday, September 14 hosting in-state rival Stevens at 7:00 pm.
