Saratgoa Springs, NY - Sophomore forward Gabby Hyman scored two goals and the Skidmore defense kept Montclair State off the board in a 3-0 field hockey win Saturday at Wagner Park.

The 16th ranked Thoroughbreds upped their record to 3-1, while the seventh-ranked Red Hawks lose for the first time this season falling to 6-1.

Scoring chances were at a premium in the tightly played contest that featured a lot of midfield play.

Hyman got Skidmore on the board early when Krista Lamoreaux used a spin move to beat a Montclair defender and place a perfect pass through traffic to Hyman who found the cage at the 5:38 mark. Â

Lamoreaux made it 2-0 off a corner at 17:50 from Becca Halter.

The Red Hawks threatened early in the second half with a dangerous ball that Thoroughbred goalie Elizabeth Coughlin aggressively cleared to eliminate the threat.

Skidmore's defense kept Montclair State in check, allowing the Thoroughbreds to get an insurance goal at 61:19. Seeley Fancher set Hyman up for her fifth of the season and a 3-0 lead.

Before facing the Thoroughbreds, Montclair had outscored its opponents 27-5, averaging 4.5 goals and 23.3 shots.

Skidmore had a 13-11 shot and 8-7 corner advantage. Marissa Folts had a defensive save in the second half for the Thoroughbreds.

The Red Hawks remain in Upstate New York, heading to Troy on Sunday, September 18 for a 2:00 pm matchup with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
