Women's Soccer Shuts Out Ramapo in NJAC Opener, 3-0

Koester, Madison, Calverley Each Score for Red Hawks

Mahwah, NJ – Sophomore ASHLEY KOESTER and junior TYLER MADISON scored two minutes apart early in the first half helping Montclair State get back on the winning track with a 3-0 win over Ramapo in the NJAC opener for both teams on Saturday.

SOPHIE CALVERLEY added a goal in the second half as the Red Hawks bounced back from their first loss of the year against No. 9 Swarthmore on Wednesday, improving to 5-1-1 on the season (1-0 NJAC). Ramapo dropped to 1-3-1 (0-1 NJAC).

Koester, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week, collected her fourth goal of the year at the 10:22 mark and it didn't take long for the lead to increase as Madison connected on her fourth of the year at 12:09 giving MSU a 2-0 advantage.

That's the way the game would stay until early in the second half. Freshman CASSIDY MAZZONE slipped a pass to Calverley, who deposited the ball into the back of the net for her first of the year at 48:21.

Sophomore picked up her third shutout in as many starts this season making four saves.

The Red Hawks outshot the Roadrunners, 12-8 and had nine corner kicks compared to two by Ramapo.

Montclair State steps back into non-conference action on Wednesday, September 21 hosting Vassar College at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
