Women's Soccer Cruises Past Brooklyn in Home Opener, 6-0

Beenders Two Goals as Red Hawks Roll

Montclair, NJ – Freshman forward EMILY BEENDERS scored the first two goals of her career as Montclair State raced past Brooklyn College 6-0 in its home opener at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore ASHLEY KOESTER and senior BROOKE TARTIS each added a goal and assist as the Red Hawks upped their record to 2-0-1. Montclair has won all three meetings with the Bulldogs (0-2-0).

MSU failed to score an offensive goal in its first two contests, however it busted out of its offensive slump recording all 22 shots in the games as well as all 14 corner kicks.

Koester set up JENNIE HORNSTRA for the first goal of the game in the 24th minute before getting one herself at the 32:06 mark off as assist from BRYNN MCDONALD. Montclair would take that 2-0 lead into the break before putting three more on the board in the second half.

Beenders scored the first two at 49:06 and 55:20 extending the lead to 4-0. Junior TYLER MADISON registered the fifth goal at 64:49 with Tartis getting the final with 6:35 to play. McDonald recorded her second assist of the game on the goal.

Sophomore MOLLY BARROW recorded the shutout, Montclair State's third in as many games.

Montclair State returns to action on Friday, September 9 taking on Elmira College at 7:00 pm in the Mount St. Mary Tournament in Newburgh, NY.
