Montclair, NJ – Senior
ALLISON BARTH will never forget her final swim at the Panzer Athletic Center and neither will her Red Hawks teammates. Barth was one of two pool-record performances as Montclair State swept its NJAC dual meet with Ramapo College on Saturday.
The Red Hawks set new facility standards on both sides in the 400 freestyle relay as MSU knocked off the Roadrunners 154-100 on the men's side and 133-126 for the women in a meet that came down to the final event.
Barth was one of six seniors competing in the group's final meet at home at Montclair.
ASHLEY SINGEWALD,
ANDREW DAMATO,
DAN KNEPPLE,
NICANDRO DONADIO and
BENJAMIN HERNANDEZ joined her helping both teams improved to 7-3 overall with each picking up their first conference victory (1-2).
After completing 15 events, the Montclair and Ramapo women found themselves deadlocked at 122-122 making the 400 freestyle relay the decider. Not only would MSU win the event that would do it
in grand style as the quartet of
MADISON FRANKE, Barth,
COURTNEY MUNRO and
MARGAUX WINCHOCK set a new Panzer Pool record with a time of 3:47.49 winning by almost seven seconds.
Minutes later the men's 400 freestyle relay team also etched their name on the record board with a time of 3:15.15.
HUNTER ROMANOWSKI,
CHARLES COBBERTT, and
BRENDAN TURNER built up a solid lead before handing it off to
KEVIN GIBSON, who swam the anchor leg in the record-setting performance.
The Red Hawk men began the meet on the right foot winning the 200 medley relay as
JAMES SINGEWALD,
KEVIN CLAUSS,
STEVEN ROTH and Cobbertt posted a winning time of 1:38.43. Knepple (10:17.34) and Donadio (10:26.81) went 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle with Romanowski (1:46.04) and Singewald (53.99) capturing the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively.
KEVIN HENNINGSEN added a win in the 200 butterfly (1:58.05) with Cobbertt leading a 1-2-3 showing in the 50 freestyle. Cobertt took first at 22.27 seconds with Romanowski and Gibson coming in at 22.73 and 22.81 seconds.
Romanowski, Singewald and Clauss each picked up second individual wins. Romanowski got his in the 100 freestyle (48.91) while Singewald took first in the 200 backstroke (1:58.29). Clauss recorded his in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.56) with Donadio earning the final win in the 500 freestyle (5:01.15).
For the women, Munro won three individual events in addition to her relay triumph. She captured both long-distance freestyle events taking the 1000 in a time of 11:43.96 and the 500 in 5:35.56. Her third win came in the 200 butterfly (2:21.03).
Freshman
CLAIRE LUIGARD swept the breaststroke winning the 100 in a time of 1:11.59 and the 200 in 2:36.15.
Montclair State closes out its NJAC slate next Saturday, January 28 at William Paterson.
