EMILY BEENDERS each scored goals as Montclair State shutout Rutgers-Newark, 2-0 at Alumni Field on Saturday evening.

MOLLY BARROW stopped six shots for the Red Hawks (8-4-4), who won their second straight contest. The victory also solidified MSU's hold on third place in the NJAC standings. The Red Hawks are now 5-1-2 in conference play and are likely to be the No. 3 seed when the league tournament begins on October 28.
Thompson snapped a scoreless tie with 4:56 remaining in the first half with her first career collegiate goal. Taking possession in the midfield, Thompson carried the ball in from 35 yards out before uncorking a blast from top of the box that found the upper-left 90 of the goal giving the Red Hawks the 1-0 lead.
That advantage carried through half time and into the first 13 minutes when Beenders made it a 2-0 lead in the 58
th minute. Picking up a loose ball, Beenders fired a shot from 23 yards out that goalkeeper Diana Carvalho got a fingertip on however the ball went through to the back of the net.
Barrow recorded her third shutout of the season and the 11
th of her career. It was Montclair State's seventh shutout overall.
MSU closes out its regular-season schedule on Wednesday, October 25 hosting New Jersey City University at 7:00 pm. It will also be Senior Night for the Red Hawks.
