Men's Soccer Downs NJCU; Earns NJAC Tourney Home Game

Terci Gets Goal, Assist as Red Hawks Grab No. 3 Seed

Jersey City, NJ – Junior forward RAFAEL TERCI had a goal and assist as Montclair State clinched a home game in the upcoming NJAC Tournament with a 3-1 victory over New Jersey City University on Wednesday afternoon.

DAMIAN KOLODZIEJ and CHAZ BURNETT picked up two assists apiece as the Red Hawks (12-6-1, 5-4 NJAC) clinched the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament which begins on Saturday, October 28. Montclair will host the No. 6 seed at MSU Soccer Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

NJCU (4-12-1, 0-8-1) got the first chances of the game putting two shots on goal that were stopped by goalkeeper MIKE SAALFRANK with another clanging off the crossbar in the 13th minute. Montclair countered five minutes later as Terci fired a shot that Gothic Knight keeper Eric Lopes Silva deflected away for corner kick.

MSU capitalized on the opportunity as Kolodziej headed Terci's service into the middle of the box that found its way over to freshman DEVAUGHN FOSTER who volleyed in the ball for his fifth of the season and a 1-0 Red Hawks advantage at the 18:17 mark.

The Red Hawks would add to the lead in the 37th minute with Kolodziej in on the action again. The defender sent the ball long up the field to Burnett who settled the ball down before sliding a pass to Terci with the latter side-stepping the keeper before depositing the ball into the net for his 10th goal of the year.

Montclair carried that 2-0 lead into the second half when NJCU cut it in half on a goal by Theo Sanoh in the 55th minute.

But the Red Hawk defense tightened up and allowed NJCU just two shots the rest of the way, including none in the final 24 minutes.

Senior MIKE TARANTO put the game away for Montclair State with his team-leading 11th goal of the year with 33 seconds left. Burnett registered the assist.

???????Saalfrank made three saves for MSU, which outshot the Gothic Knights 21-11 in the contest. The Red Hawks posted their eighth straight win against NJCU and improved to 51-10-3 all time in the series between the schools.
