Taranto Overtime Goal Sends Men's Soccer to NJAC Semifinals

Red Hawks Rally from Two Goals Down to Beat WPU, 3-2

Box Score Montclair, NJ - The Montclair State men's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit in the second-half to beat William Paterson, 3-2 in overtime in the first round of the NJAC Men's Soccer Championship at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday evening.

The Red Hawks (13-6-1) move on to the semifinals where they will face second-seeded Rutgers-Newark at Alumni Field on Wednesday, November 1 at 7:30 pm. It will be the second meeting in 10 days between the two as the Scarlet Raiders posted a 2-0 win in Montclair on October 21. The two teams also met in last years NJAC semifinals with Montclair State coming away with a 2-0 victory en route to capturing the conference title.

The Red Hawks went down in the 24' after midfielder JP Gonzales finished off Keysean Brant-Sharp cross to the back post. Gonzales struck again a minute later after following his own block shot to give William Paterson, (10-6-3) a seemingly commanding lead.

Defender JOE BIANCO scored MSU's first goal in the 73' just inside the six from freshman CHAZ BURNETT, who equalized the game in the  87' after the Pioneers costly give away inside their own 18 to send the game to overtime.

Senior MIKE TARANTO ended the game with his free-kick in the 97' to complete the Red Hawks' comeback.
