Men's Soccer Earns Four Major NJAC Awards; Places Eight on All-Conference Teams

Pitman, NJ - The Montclair State University Men's Soccer team collected four New Jersey Athletic Conference major awards along with a league-high eight All-Conference selections, the league announced on Wednesday morning.

TOMAS MONTEIRO was named Offensive Player of the Year, with PIERRE SOUMEILLANT being named Goalkeeper of the Year and KENET LOPEZ collecting the David Logar Leadership Award. Montclair's coaching staff won Jeff Haines Coaching Staff of the Year honors, as the group placed six on the NJAC's First Team (Monteiro, Soumeillant, KEVIN CONTRERAS, SEBASTIAN LAPCZYNSKI, CARLOS BEDOYA, and JOSH VIRGIL) and a pair on the Honorable Mention list (LOGAN NENO and THOMAS PUGLIESE).

Monteiro followed up his Rookie of the Year campaign from 2025 by leading the NJAC in goal contributions, posting 14 goals and nine assists to sit within the top ten in the nation. The striker, who became the sixth Offensive Player of the Year in program history, factored into a goal in all but four appearances this season, registering five performances with multiple goal contributions. He rattled off his first career hat trick against Hunter in early September in just 42 minutes, scoring the game-winner. Monteiro notched a brace later on against Centenary, and notched his first career multi-assist game against Rutgers-Newark. In league play, he totaled four goals and five assists, including a pair of game-winning strikes.

Soumeillant became the first Red Hawk to be named Goalkeeper of the Year since 2022 and the program's fifth all time, as the sophomore ranked second in the NJAC in shutouts with eight on the year. The keeper has posted 14 victories between the posts for the Red Hawks and has blanked four teams within league play. In 18 games, he has posted a 0.66 goals against average, a mark that sits atop the conference. He tallied a season-high five saves twice, in the team's opener against Vassar and clash against Rutgers-Newark in October.

Lopez is the 12th in program history to receive the David Logar Leadership Award and the fourth over the last five seasons. The senior has appeared in all 19 games and made 18 starts, notching three goals and an assist in 1,037 minutes. He scored in back-to-back contests against Western Connecticut and Christopher Newport and followed that up at the end of September with a goal in Montclair's NJAC opener against New Paltz. On Senior Night, he picked up an assist against Rutgers-Camden to round out his goal contributions for the campaign.

Montclair's coaching staff of Todd Tumelty, Joe Cullen, Marlon Pollard, Antonio D'Andrea, Owen Murphy, and Brendan Guzman collected the league's Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the second consecutive season and third time over the last four years. Combined with when the award was an individual honor, Tumelty has been named the NJAC's best seven times. This season, the Red Hawks posted a 15-2-2 record with an unbeaten 6-0-2 mark in league play for the ninth time in program history. They finished the regular season second in the nation in goals with 66 across 19 games, outscoring opponents by 55. The Red Hawks have scored 24 more goals than the next-highest NJAC program and have accounted for over 20 percent of the total goals in the 10-team conference. Defensively, the Red Hawks collected 11 clean sheets, sitting atop the league and finishing tied for third in the nation.

Contreras picked up his second-straight First Team All-NJAC nod, expanding on what was a breakout sophomore campaign in 2025. The forward was tied for fourth in the NJAC in goals with nine, adding four assists in 18 starts and 862 minutes. He put together five performances with multiple goal contributions, with four coming consecutively. Contreras tallied a goal and assist against Western Connecticut and Christopher Newport, and followed that up with braces in each of the first two NJAC contests against New Paltz and Rutgers-Newark, including the game-winner in the latter.

Lapczynski starred as one of the best two-way defenders in the NJAC, landing him on the league's First Team. The junior started all 17 of his regular season appearances, totaling seven goals and two assists coming into the postseason. He was 6-for-7 from the penalty spot as Montclair's premier taker, notching game-winning goals against Christopher Newport and New Paltz, along with another from the run of play against Stockton. The defender logged 1,246 minutes during the regular season and contributed to 10 clean sheets on Montclair's back line.

Virgil earned First Team All-NJAC honors following a season in which he was one of the conference's most threatening wingers. He appeared in all 19 of Montclair's regular season games and logged 1,008 minutes during that span, totaling three goals and seven assists. Virgil tallied goals against Hunter, Centenary, and Stockton, while recording an assist in four NJAC regular season contests. He registered a span of three consecutive appearances with an assist in league play against Rowan, Ramapo, and Kean in mid-October.

Bedoya collected First Team honors in 2026 after being named to the league's Second Team last year. The sophomore started all 19 of Montclair's regular season games, totaling 1,356 minutes and contributing to all of the team's NJAC-leading 11 clean sheets. He has posted six assists on the offensive side of the ball, matching the total from his debut campaign. The defender tallied assists in back-to-back contests against WPI and Brooklyn College, and amassed four over five games including a pair against Centenary at the end of September.

Neno tallied Honorable Mention recognition after becoming a steady offensive weapon off the bench for the Red Hawks during the 2026 season. In 15 appearances, the midfielder totaled 484 minutes, six goals, and a pair of assists. His first goal of the campaign was the game-winner against Berry in September, following that up with five goals over the final four games of the regular season, including his first career brace against Ramapo in mid-October.

Rounding out the group is Pugliese, who garnered Honorable Mention honors after appearing in 15 games and making nine starts during the regular season, totaling 887 minutes. The junior scored goals against WPI and Hunter, while also adding an assist in the latter. He recorded his first collegiate contest with two assists against Christopher Newport at the end of September. Defensively, he helped anchor a Montclair back line that notched nine shutouts in games he appeared in.

The Red Hawks will host #13 Rowan for the 2026 NJAC Men's Soccer Championship on Friday, November 6. Kickoff from MSU Soccer Park is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
