KEVIN CLAUSS swept both breaststroke events for Montclair State as the Red Hawks dropped their NJAC opener to The College of New Jersey 170-122 at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool on Friday evening.
CHARLES COBBERTT and
STEVEN ROTH each posted victories for MSU, which fell to 2-2 overall, 0-1 in the NJAC.
Clauss posted a time of 1:02.34 to win the 100 breaststroke before coming back later in the evening to take the top spot in the 200 event at 2:15.61. Cobbertt's victory came in the 50 freestyle as he swam 22.22 with Roth earning a win in the 100 butterfly (52.42).
Cobertt would also place second in the 200 freestyle touching out teammate
KEVIN GIBSON. Cobbertt touched in at 1:49.58 with Gibson coming in .01 seconds later.
JAMES SINGEWALD was second in the 100 backstroke (54.64) with Roth (1:57.46) and
KEVIN HENNINGSEN (1:58.98) placing second and third respectively in the 200 butterfly.
Cobertt made it two second-place finishes swimming 49.26 in the 200 freestyle with
BRENDAN TURNER coming third at 49.46 seconds. Henningsen was second behind Roth in the 100 butterfly (54.07) and Singewald was second in the 200 individual medley (2:07.06).
Diver
MICHAEL TRAINA placed second in both diving events with scores of 132.10 and 178.25 points.
The Red Hawks are now off until Saturday, November 11 when it travels to the College of Staten Island for a 1:00 pm dual meet with the Dolphins.
