Glassoboro, NJ - Sophomore forward Emimly Beenders converted the decisive penalty kick in the final round as the Montclair State women's soccer team outlasted No. 17 and second-seeded Rowan in a shootout in the semifinals of the NJAC Women's Soccer Championship on Tuesday evening.
The Red Hawks won the shootout 4-2 following a scoreless tie and are headed to the championship game on Friday, November 3 against top-seeded and second-ranked The College of New Jersey.in Ewing, NJ at 7:30 pm. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship. It will be Montclair's first appearance in the title game since 2014 when it captured the crown, beating TCNJ in penalty kicks. The teams also met in the 2013 final with the Lions prevailing in the same manner.
For a third straight meeting, two halve plut two overtime periods could not decide a winner as the scoreless stretch between the teams reached 330 minutes. For the second consecutive season the contest would be decided. This time around it would be Montclair State prevailing, reversing the score from 2016 when the Profs advanced by the identical 4-2 margin.
