Montclair, NJ – Junior
KAILEY DALGAUER had a hand in all three goals as third-ranked Montclair State remained unbeaten on the year with a 3-0 victory over local rival and conference rival William Paterson on Wednesday evening at Sprague Field.
KAITLYN STRUSS added a goal for the Red Hawks, who are now 12-0 on the year, 3-0 in league play as they bested their nearby neighbor for the eighth consecutive meeting. MSU leads the all-time series 49-23-4.
Junior goalkeeper Mallory Rickerhauser made 12 saves for William Paterson (2-8, 0-3 NJAC), which dropped its seventh straight contest.
The MSU defense was smothering allowing the Pioneers just two shots in the game, both coming in the second half. Montclair held a 15-0 advantage in shots in the first half but couldn't solve Rickerhauser, who made seven saves in the opening period. WPU also got an outstanding effort from Shannon Super who came up with a defensive save at the 18:31 mark keeping the game scoreless.
Three more Rickerhauser saves followed before MSU broke through on Dalgauer's first goal of the game with 6:55 remaining on a shot from the top of the circle that found its way through traffic in front of the cage.
MSU took the one-goal lead into halftime and quickly extended it 3:10 into the second half on another Dalgauer goal.
MEGHAN MOLLAHAN sent corner insert pass down low on the right side to Dalgauer who misfired on her first attempt. However she was able to collect the ball again and flipped a shot inside the right post from three yards out for her sixth goal of the season.
Struss got the final goal with 18:43 remaining, her team-leading 11
th of the year. Dalgauer intercepted a clear and drove back inside the top of the circle firing a shot toward the cage. Struss, standing in front redirected the ball in giving the Red Hawks a 3-0 lead.
Goalkeepers
KAITLIN MAGUIRE and
NICOLE ANDRIANI combined on the shutout, Montclair's third of the year. Andriani made the lone save, a stop against Kristin Freas-Papa on the doorstep with 5:18 left in the game.
