Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 3 Field Hockey Takes First Loss Falling to TCNJ, 3-0

Fifth-Ranked Lions Hand MSU First Setback

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State field hockey team is unbeaten no more. The third-ranked Red Hawks suffered their first loss of the season as No. 5 The College of New Jersey posted a 3-0 win at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman goalkeeper NICOLE ANDRIANI made three saves for MSU, which fell to 12-1 on the year, 2-1 in NJAC play. Elizabeth Morrison scored twice for the Lions (8-2, 3-0 NJAC), who have won four in a row.

TCNJ limited Montclair to just four shots in the game and scored 3:39 into the contest on the game's first shot. Off a penalty corner, Kayla Peterson took the insert on the left wing and fired a shot that was tipped in by Tori Tienfenthaler for the latter's ninth gal of the year and a 1-0 Lions advantage.

Morrison added to the lead in the 17th minute on an unassisted tally. Taking a ball along the right end line, Morrison drove in toward the right post before tucking in a shot making the score 2-0.

TCNJ carried the two-goal lead into halftime and then survived a push from the Red Hawks who came close to getting on the board with 17:30 minutes to play. KAILEY DALGAUER flipped a shot that Lions keeper Christina Fabiano saved. In the battle for the loose ball, Montclair was awarded a penalty stroke but could not convert the opportunity as Fabiano denied KAITLYN PRESTINARI.

Kayla Peterson came within inches of widening the lead to 3-0 as her attempt hit the post. TCNJ kept possession of the ball and scored 10 seconds later as Morrison tipped in a shot by Cayla Andrews with 7:35 left in the contest.

Montclair State will look to get back on the winning track on Friday evening, October 13 when it travels to Glassboro, NJ to face Rowan University at 7:00 pm.
