Women's Soccer Draws Against Rowan, 0-0

Bledsoe Stops 10 for Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ - In the battle of the undefeated in conference play, Montclair State and Rowan University played a scoreless draw in double overtime at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday afternoon.

Rowan, ranked 19th in Division III, had its nine-game winning streak snapped but is now unbeaten in its last 10 as it moved to 9-1-2 on the year, 4-0-1 in NJAC play. The Profs, were also held without a goal for the first time since its 1-0 loss to Johns Hopkins on September 3.  Montclair State (6-3-3), which had its four-match win streak halted, is now 6-3-3 overall also 4-0-1 in league play.

It is the second straight scoreless contest between the teams and the fourth in the last six meetings. Last year, Rowan used penalty kicks to advance past MSU in the semifinals of the NJAC Tournament en route to winning the championship.

The Red Hawks were outshot in the contest 26-11 but managed to keep the game scoreless thanks to freshman goalkeeper PHOEBE BLEDSOE, who made six of her 10 saves in the opening period. She made back-to-back stops against Cathryn McCarry and Kelsi Stangl in the seventh minute of the contest and denied Lauren Coletti twice in  the closing minutes of the half keeping the game at 0-0.

Bledsoe made three more saves in the second half and then came up with a big one in the second overtime, stopping Danni Kitzinger 1:49 into the second sudden-victory period.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday October, 11 at William Paterson with kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
