JORDAN ROBERSON posted a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds leading seven players in double figures as Montclair State knocked off Greenville University in a shootout at the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Tournament, 119-114 on Friday evening at Case Western Reserve.

JARRETT BOGUS had 17 and 15 points respectively for the Red Hawks (1-0), who posted their most prolific offense game in 63 years while recording the most points in a season opener. The 119 points were one shy of the single-game record of 120 set against Bloomfield (120-102) in 1954.
DANIEL RAMIS finished with 14 points while
JUSTIN PORTER and
MYLES MITCHELL-WHITE had 11 apiece.
JOVANNI CHATHAM totaled 10 for the Red Hawks, who scored 66 points in the first half. Montclair shot 56 percent from the field (45-of-81) and was 7-of-11 from three-point range (64 percent) with Ramis connecting four times in five tries.
Montclair State also held a huge advantage on the board outrebounding Greenville 64-37 including 21 offensive rebounds.
MSU trailed by as many as 14 points midway through the first half as Greenville took a 34-20 advantage with 12:26 to go. The Red Hawks then embarked on a 24-2 run over the next four minutes to go up eight as Ramis drilled a three-pointer making the score 44-36 with 8:03 remaining. Porter's layup gave Montclair its largest lead of the half at 54-42 with four minutes on the clock and the Red Hawks took a 66-57 advantage into the locker room.
In the second half, Greenville got the deficit down to four points, including a 79-75 score six minutes into the new period. Roberson however converted a three-point play and
TIM ALGENIO connected from behind the arc a minute later for an 85-75 lead.
Greenville would make several pushes to inch closer and tied the game with 5:44 left on a three-pointer by Rakim Murphy. Bogus countered with a basket at the other end and added a free throw before Mitchell White's bucket with 3:53 remaining made the score 106-101.
Back-to-back baskets by Roberson and Bogus increased MSU's lead to 110-103 inside three minutes however Greenville refused to go away as a five-point spurt made it a 110-108 contest with 2:22 left. Bogus got two back on a layup and foul shots by Mitchell-White pushed the advantage to 114-108 with 99 seconds remaining. Mitchell-White would hit 3-of-4 at the line down the stretch with Porter making two more with :02 to play for the final margin.
The Red Hawks now advance to the championship game on Saturday, November 18 against the winner of the other opening round contest between host Case Western Reserve and Frostburg State at 4:00 pm.
