Men's Lacrosse Suffers Second Straight Close Loss, 8-7

Red Hawks Drop Home Opener to Dickinson

Montclair, NJ – Dylan Maher and Tyler Strods each scored three time as Dickinson College slipped past Montclair State 8-7 at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Nick Goles and Tyler Llewellyn collected one goal apiece as the Red Devils remained unbeaten on the season at 2-0. Dickinson also improved to 6-2 all-time against MSU, including victories in each of the last two seasons.

Senior attack DON FINN netted a pair of goals for Montclair, which fell to 0-2 with its second straight close loss. The Red Hawks dropped their opener against No. 1 Salisbury last week in Maryland, 9-7.

Finn scored twice is the first period, the second coming with 5:48 left giving the Red Hawks a 2-0 advantage. Maher got a goal back for Dickinson however MSU's BRADY WULSTER answered 75 seconds later making the score 4-1.  Maher finished off a feed from Brodie Phillips with 1:33 left and Strods connected with 17 ticks allowing the Red Devils to tie the game 3-3.

Llewellyn scored the only goal of the second giving the visitors a 4-3 lead at halftime. Strods registered a goal on the first possession of the third quarter extended the lead to two goals. Wulster cut the deficit back to 5-4 on a man-up goal with 10:35 left but that was answered by Nick Goles five minutes later.

Finn set up JAMES CLARKE for a score inside three minutes getting the deficit back to a goal but Maher's third goal with 1:12 put the Red Devils in front 7-5 heading into the final period.

???????Strods hat-trick tally early in the fourth gave the Red Devils their largest lead at 8-5 with 11:15 remaining. COREY CARLSON countered a minute later for Montclair State but that would be the last goal until 2:06 to play when Wulster found the back of the net making the score 8-7.

Montclair State would win the ensuing faceoff and called timeout. But coming out of the break, Dickinson defenseman Dane Huber forced a turnover with 25 seconds. Huber scooped up the ground ball and the Red Devils were able to run out the clock for the victory.

BLASE MANTINEO was 12-of-17 on faceoffs with five ground balls for Montclair which got four ground balls from defenseman RYAN YOUNG. LUCAS JONES stopped 12 shots for the Red Hawks.

Montclair returns to action on Wednesday, March 1 against in-state rival Stevens in Hoboken, NJ beginning at 8:00 pm.
