Baseball Beaten in Florida; Concordia-Chicago Tops MSU, 5-4

Red Hawks Suffer Second Straight One-Run Loss

Auburndale, FL - The Montclair State baseball team suffered its second straigtht one-run loss on Thursday as the Red Hawks fell to Concordia-Chicago, 5-4 in the RussMatt Invitational.

Second baseman Mitch Wilson collected three hits and an RBI to lead the attack for the Cougars, while RYAN LONG, PHILIP SCOTT and DOM LAMPASONA each had multi-hit games for the Red Hawks.

Concordia starter Noah Dressler threw 5.2 innings of one-run (unearned) ball in his first outing of the year, striking out six Red Hawks while yielding three hits, three walks, and a hit batsman. Max Maarleveled toed the rubber for MSU in his first start of the season following four relief appearances and took the loss. Maarleveld (0-1) went 5.2 innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, three strikeouts and two walks.

The Wolverines got on the board in the first inning when an error allowed Brent Spohr to reach base while Bryan VanDuser scord. Brady Roberts would homer in the second, and two runs would come home in the fifth with RBIs from VanDuser and Joe Silva. Montclair State began to mount a comeback in the sixth when Lampasona reached on an error allowing JOE FOOTE to score. Foote doubled home Long in the seventh, and JUSTIN EPIFANIO knocked in JOE NORTON with an groundout in the eighth. The Wolverines brought their fifth run in with a Wilson RBI single. Foote brought Long home again in the ninth with an RBI groundout, but the Red Hawks could not score an equalizer to extend the game.

ANTHONY DEBLASIO struck out three in 2.1 innings of work. Brian Musielak earned his fourth save of the year for Concordia.

The Red Hawks return to action on Friday at 4:45 against the Blue Devils of Fredonia in their next game of the RussMatt Invitational.
