KYLE GRAVER and
CHELSEA ORBAN each scored three times as Montclair State stretched its winning streak to three games with a 10-7 win at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Wednesday.
Senior
LINDSAY LARE added two goals as MSU upped its record to 4-1 on the year in addition to beating the Engineers for the second straight season.
The Red Hawks never trailed in the game and scored the first two goals of the game. Orban set up
GRACE CONLON for the first goal of the contest 3:07 in with Orban getting the next at the 18:52 mark giving MSU the 2-0 lead.
Sophie Hager got a goal back for RPI however Graver collected her first with 15:54 to go and Lare connected nearly six minutes later pushing the lead to 4-1. The teams traded goals the remainder of the game with Orban scoring the final on with 1:23 left giving the Red Hawks a 6-3 lead at the break.
Graver's second goal early in the second with Montclair a player up made it a four-goal advantage however Abbey Salvon and Hager scored back-to-back pulling the Engineers within 7-5. But Lare and Graver answered for MSU widening the lead back to 9-5 with 13:30 to play.
Erin Goodwin scored for RPI with just under 10 minutes left creating a three-goal margin however Orban's eighth of the year with 6:19 on the clock all but sealed the win for the Red Hawks.
AMANDA MAGUIRE made five saves for Montclair State which got a pair of draws from Lare and
LEANNE MCCLOSKEY. Francesca Verrons, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week forced five turnovers with
EMILY WONG recording two. Verrone led MSU with five ground balls.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 18 with the final road game in this four-game stretch. Montclair State will be in Allentown, PA to face Muhlenberg College at 1:00 pm.
