Allentown, PA – A solid defensive effort in the first half sparked an 11-goal run bridging each side of intermission as Muhlenberg College handed Montclair State its second straight loss, 13-9 on Tuesday afternoon.
Jordy Bonvini scored six times for the Mules (9-2), who turned an early two-goal deficit into a nine-goal lead in the second half before Montclair State mounted a rally. The Red Hawks fell to 7-4 on the season.
Three straight goals by Montclair a six-minute span put the Red Hawks in front 3-1.
AVIANA PARAGGIO got MSU on the board and
CHELSEA ORBAN scored with 24:21.
LINDSAY LARE had the final goal.
But it would be all Muhlenberg from that point going forward as the hosts tallied the final seven goals of the first half. Bonvini started it off with 18:54 left and goals nine second apart by Bonvini and Amanda Tullo put Muhlenberg on top 4-3. Bonvini added her third of the half and goals by Emma Charron and Nora Fisher widened the lead to 7-3. Kelsey Nagle got the final goal of the half as Muhlenberg went into the break up five, 8-3.
Stephanie D'Ascoli kept the run going in the second half and Bonvini connected twice more at the lead went to 12-3.
MSU snapped the run with three in a row, including two by Lare 12 seconds apart that trimmed the lead to 12-6. Bonvini notched her final goal with 5:30 left snapping the Red Hawks' goal streak.
GRACE CONLON had two goals and Lare her fourth with 2:37 making the 13-9 however that would as close as Montclair State would get.
Conlon added five draws and two ground balls while
LEANNE MCCLOSKEY added three draws, three caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Montclair State is back in action on Saturday, April 15 hosting Rowan University at Sprague Field beginning at 1:00 pm.
