Men's Lacrosse Stays Hot, Beats Kean for 6th Straight Win, 14-9

Haemmerle, Wulster, Bellezza Lead Red Hawks Over Kean

Montclair, NJ – Sophomores MATT HAEMMERLE and DAN BELLEZZA and senior BRADY WULSTER combined for nine goals and five assists as Montclair State registered its sixth straight win, knocking off Kean University 14-9 on Wednesday evening.

DON FINN added two assists as the Red Hawks got back to the .500 mark at 6-6 while remaining perfect in the Skyline Conference at 6-0. Brian Mills scored six times for Kean, which is also at 6-6 overall, 4-3 in conference play.

Haemmele, who finished with five goals and three assists, had a hand in five of Montclair's seven goals in the first quarter when the Red Hawks stormed out to a 7-1 lead. He scored the first goal with 7:03 left and assisted on Bellezza's tally two minutes later. Wulster got on the board with a goal for a 3-0 lead and three straight by Haemmerle made the score 6-0.

Forrest Terpe snapped the run with 15 seconds left however Bellezza ripped a shot from the right wing into the back of the net with nine ticks to go giving MSU the six-goal lead.

Mills connected twice 1:13 apart early in the second and, after a Wulster score, scored again with 6:14 to go trimming the lead to 9-4. Alec Ramos added a goal for Kean and Mills' fourth of the half pulled the Cougars within 9-6 at the break.

COREY CARLSON registered a goal to start the second half and scores by Bellezza and Mills put MSU in front 12-6 after three quarters.

Mills made it a 12-7 contest 65 seconds into the fourth and again with 13:26 left however Wulster connected off a feed from Finn for a 13-8 MSU lead with 10:27 to go. Kean then got a huge break as Montclair was assessed a three-minute penalty for an illegal stick. Matt Brodley scored 33-seconds into the long man-up opportunity to get the deficit back to four goals however MSU won the ensuing faceoff and killed off the remaining time.

JAMES CLARKE got the final goal with 4:22 to play.

BLASE MANTINEO was dominating on faceoffs again wining 17-of-23 with 13 ground balls, tying his own MSU single-game mark in the category. RYAN YOUNG registered eight ground balls along with an assist and two caused turnovers. LUCAS JONES made nine saves.

Montclair State is now off until Wednesday, April 19 when it hosts Farmingdale State at Sprague Field. Faceoff of the Skyline Conference contest is set for 7:00 pm.
