SAM KEATING tossed a three-hit shutout in the opener as Montclair State split its NJAC doubleheader at Stockton University on Saturday.
Sophomore
LIA STAMILE and freshman
ELENA RADESICH each belted home runs as the Red Hawks (15-12, 4-6) won the opener 6-0 before a rally in the second game by the Ospreys led to a 4-2 loss.
Keating improved to 5-4 on the season with her second shutout. The righthander allowed three singles, walked two and allowed her defense to do the work with 16 ground ball outs in the contest.
Montclair gave Keating a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
KAYLEE POWERS led off with a single through the left side and went to second. Stamile then laced a double to left center for the game's first run. Two batters later, Radesich singled scoring Stamile for the 2-0 MSU advantage.
Stamile pushed the lead to 3-0 in the third with her second home run of the year, a one-out solo shot to left center. Stockton threatened in its half putting runners at second and third with two outs however Keating got a foul fly out to end the inning.
Samantha DiClementi lofted a sacrifice fly in the sixth and the Red Hawks added two more runs in the seventh for the final margin.
BLAKE SAPERSTEIN had an RBI single with an error allowing
NOEL HODGINS to score the seventh run.
Powers, Stamile and Radesich each had two hits for the Red Hawks.
In the second game,
ELENIS GARCIA gave MSU a 1-0 lead in the third on a ground out however that was matched in the bottom of the third by Stockton. Radesich's solo shot to lead off the fourth put MSU back in front however Stockton rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.
Radesich collected two hits.
NICOLE MAJEWSKI (5-5) took the loss.
Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, April 17 with another road NJAC doubleheader. The Red Hawks head to Jersey City, NJ to face New Jersey City University at 3:00 pm.
