Montclair, NJ – Freshman second baseman
KAYLEE POWERS went 5-fot-7 with five runs scored as Montclair State swept its second straight doubleheader taking two games from DeSales University at the MSU Softball Stadium on Sunday.
BLAKE SAPERSTEIN drove in five runs while
LIA STAMILE and Elena Radisch each had four RBI as the Red Hawks, winners of four straight, posted 8-3 and 10-1 victories to improve to 14-10 on the year.
Adrianna Barone and Sunny Greenburg each an RBI for the Bulldogs, who fell to 9-13 on the season.
Montclair jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning. Stamile delivered an RBI single with Saperstein plating the next on a ground out. A Radesich RBI double to center made the score 3-0.
DeSales tied the game the next inning scoring three times without the benefit of a hit as three Montclair State miscues aided the Bulldogs. Greenburg drove in a run with a ground out and two-out error allowed Madison Coughlin and Madison Sias to score knotting the game at 3-3.
VALENTINA CUCCI untied the game in the bottom of the inning with a two-run double that scored Powers and
ALANA LUNA. Stamile had a two run double in the fourth to extend the lead to 7-3. Saperstein followed with an RBI single giving the Red Hawks a five-run cushion.
Freshman righthander
COURTNEY POLITZ got the victory to up her record to 4-1 Politz went the first five innings allowing four runs – none earned, and four hits. She struck out two and walked two before giving way to
SAM KEATING who closed out the game with two scoreless innings. Shannon Hill (1-3) took the loss for the Bulldogs.
Powers was 3-for-4 while Stamile and
VICTORIA GEHRING had two hits each to pace a 12-hit Montclair State attack.
NOEL HODGINS singled home Powers in the bottom of the first giving MSU an early 1-0 in the second game. The lead would get extended to four in the third as Radesich drove in a run with a ground out before Saperstein singled home two more for a 4-0 advantage.
???????Barone got DeSales on the board in the fourth however that was answered with six runs by Montclair State in the fourth. Cucci brought home the first with a single and Stamile walked with the bases loaded making the score 6-1. Radesich added two more with a single into right-center and Saperstein lifted a single down the left field line scoring Stamile. Samantha DiClementi had the final run with a sacrifice fly for a 10-1 MSU lead.
Freshman righthander
NICOLE MAJEWSKI was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst by MSU, which had 11 hits in the game. Majewski (5-3) allowed four hits struck out two and did not walk a batter.
Hodgins and Saperstein each had three hits in the game while Powers was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, April 11 hosting local rival William Paterson at the MSU Softball Stadium. First pitch of the NJAC doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
