Glassboro, NJ – Junior
LIA NEGRA captured the javelin event for the second straight year as the Montclair State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams placed sixth and fifth, respectively at the NJAC Championships held at Rowan University on Saturday and Sunday.
Negra made it back-to-back victories in the javelin with a best throw of 42.14 meters. Freshman
LENA BILOTTI, making her first conference championship meet appearance placed third with a throw of 38.02 meters. On the men's side,
ROB MELILLO led three Red Hawks in the Top 10 of the javelin finishing second at 59.77 meters.
ROBERT KESSLER placed sixth (56.64 meters) and
ANTONIO GUERRIERO was eighth at 54.43 meters.
Freshman
SARA SOY was the runner up in the shot put with a distance of 11.27 meters and also placed 12
th in the hammer throw (27.95 meters). Senior
MATTHEW SANTANGELO posted a mark of 14.70 meters for fourth in the shot put. Sophomore
CHAHEEN PAYNE leaped 14.45 meters in the triple jump for third and Kessler was eighth in the hammer throw at 41.20 meters.
Back on the track, senior
HANNAH DEMATTEO ean 1:04.29 for second in the 400 meter hurdles while
DANIEL BARREIRA was fifth on the men's side clocking in at 55.93 seconds. Senior
RASHEED AMILCAR finished fourth in the 400 meters posting a time of 50.48 seconds.
JODI HINCHEN was seventh in the 800 meters (2:26.48).
Amilcar and Barreira joined
TRAYVONNE JONES and
JACK ROSEN on the 4x400 relay team that placed third with a time of 3:22.40. For the women, DeMatteo,
JOBA ODEDIRAN, Hinchen and
TERRI-ANN SHORTER combined on a time of 4:15.34 for fifth.
DeMatteo,
JOCELYN ANDERSON, Odediran and Shorter comprised the 4x100 relay quartet which was fifth overall at 52.18 seconds.
