No. 8 Field Hockey Pulls Away From Stevens, 5-1

Haslett Two Goals, Assist for 5-0 Red Hawks

Hoboken, NJ – Junior forward AMBER HASLETT scored twice and assisted on another goal as No. 8 Montclair State stayed unbeaten with a 5-1 victory at Stevens on Wednesday evening.

Stevens grabbed a 1-0 lead less than eight minutes into the contest as Regan Littell fired a long shot from the right side that made its way through traffic before hitting the back of the cage at 7:17.

Montclair State quickly answered as KAILEY DALGAUER scored for the third straight game at the 10-minute mark. The Red Hawks moved on a break with KAITLYN STRUSS moving in along the right side. Struss flipped a pass across to Dalgauer for the goal and a 1-1 tie.

Five minutes later, MSU took the lead as Haslett scored her second goal of the season with a hard shot from the right side. The Red Hawks turned up the offensive pressure the rest of the half outshooting the Ducks 15-4 however the margin remained 2-1 as Stevens keeper Nicole Mottole made seven saves, including two straight. 

Stevens would get a chance at the first half horn earning a pair of penalty corners. But the hosts came up empty as KAITLIN MAGUIRE stopped one shot with Montclair blocking the final attempt to end the period.

ALEXA CONSTANTINE made it a two-goal lead 8:50 into the second half converting a penalty corner opportunity. KELLY WATSON got the assist. Haslett collected her second goal with 17:11 to play backhanding a shot to the far post on the right.

Haslett turned into playmaker for the final goal setting up KELLIE VIZZUSO with 1:50 to play.

Maguire finished with two saves while NICOLE ANDRIANI registered three in the final seven minutes of the contest.

Montclair finished with a 27-17 advantage in shots and held a big margin in penalty corners, 17-5.

The Red Hawks will play their long-awaited home opener on Saturday, September 16 as they host No. 9 Skidmore College at Sprague Field in a matchup of Top 10 teams in the latest Penn Monto / National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Poll.
