CHRISTINE MAYORGA provided the heroics at the end of regulation and again in overtime as Montclair State slipped past Kean University, 2-1 at Alumni Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Mayorga rescued the Red Hawks turning an almost defeat into a victory helping MSU improve to 5-3-2 on the season while remaining unblemished in NJAC play at 3-0. Kean fell to 7-3 as the Cougars took their first conference loss (2-1)
Montclair fell behind 1-0 in the 12
th minute as Kean's Kendall Machak headed in a pass from Sabrini Sirni putting the hosts up. The Red Hawks would outshoot the Cougars 9-4 in the opening period but could not manage a shot past Kean keeper Casey McDonnell.
That one-goal lead carried through halftime and into the first 40 minutes of the second half before MSU knotted the score at 1-1 on Mayorga's first goal, a low-liner off a corner kick feed from freshman

In the overtime period Kean got off the first shot however Machak's attempt went high. Mayorga returned to the game at 96:11 and 74 seconds end it with her second goal. Freshman
MADDY MCLELLAND fired a shot that McDonnell saves. Fortunate for Montclair State the carom came right out to Mayorga who banged in the rebound for the game-winner.

PHOEBE BLEDSOE made saves to earn her third straight victory.
The Red Hawks are back in action on Saturday, September 30 with another NJAC contest. Montclair will be in Galloway, NJ to face Stockton University at 1:00 pm.
