No. 5 Field Hockey Pushes Past Muhlenberg, 5-1

Haslett with Two Goals as MSU Stays Unbeaten at 10-0

Montclair, NJ – Junior midfielder AMBER HASLETT scored twice as fifth-ranked Montclair State scored the last five goals in a 5-1 victory over Muhlenberg College at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore KELLY WATSON collected a pair of assists as the Red Hawks remained unbeaten at 10-0. The 10 wins to open the year is Montclair's best start since 2013 when it also captured its first 10 contests.

Courtney Allen registered her first goal of the season for the Mules (1-7), who dropped their fourth straight.

Allen got the first goal of the game 87 seconds into the contest. Off the penalty corner insert by Stephi Rydgren, Allen collected a loose ball and flipped a shot inside the left post giving Muhlenberg a 1-0 lead.

Goalkeeper Emma Rosenthal made that lead hold up with four saves over the next 12 minutes until the Red Hawks tied the game on a goal by KAILEY DALGAUER, who shot from 10 yards out found the back of the cage for her fourth goal of the season and the 1-1 tie.

MSU took the lead in the waning minutes of the first half. Freshman JOELLE WASH sent a ball deep into the circle where KAITLYN STRUSS spun to her right before tucking a shot inside the right post for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.

The Red Hawks took their one-goal lead into the break but extended it 9:45 into the second half on the first of Haslett's two goals. Watson inserted the ball from the left side up top to Haslett, who blasted a shot past Rosenthal making the score 3-1. The duo would combine again just under five minutes later pushing the lead to 4-1.

KAITLYN PRESTINARI accounted for the final MSU goal, her second of the season, finishing off a feed from ALEXIS AMBROSINO down low on the right side.

KAITLIN MAGUIRE made five saves in 53 minutes before giving way to NICOLE ANDRIANI, who made one in the final 17 minutes.

Montclair State jumps into New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 30. The Red Hawks will be in Galloway, NJ taking on Stockton University at 1:00 pm.
