Men's Soccer Beaten by Endicott on Late Goal, 2-1

Red Hawks Complete Opening Weekend at 1-1

Beverly, MA – Endicott College's Dario Neukom scored with 6:38 remaining in regulation lifting the Gulls to a 2-1 victory over Montclair State on Sunday afternoon.

Jesse Martinez added a goal for the hosts, who improved to 1-0-1 on the year. The Red Hawks, winners in their opener on Friday, fell to 1-1.

Endicott grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute as Martinez scored his first goal of the season. Martinez picked up a loose ball in scrum and broke away before firing a shot into the lower left corner for the game's first score.

Montclair knotted the game less than three minutes into the second half. Sophomomre MATT NETO sent a cross to senior MIKE TARANTO, who beat the keeper with a shot into the upper right corner. It was Taranto's first of the season.

The defenses took over from that point with neither team getting many chances. MSU's MIKE SAALFRANK stopped a pair of shots and Endicott keeper Will Manuel saved a shot from Neto at the 79:15 mark.

In the 84th minute, Evan Couchot booted a cross just out of the reach of Saalfrank and onto the foot of Neukom, who one-touched the pass into the center of the net for the 2-1 advantage.

Saalfrank finished with three saves for the Red Hawks, who were outshot in the game 18-12. MSU held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5.

Montclair State continues its season-opening road trip on Wednesday, September 6 when it travel to Hunter College for a 5:00 pm matchup with the Hawks.
