Washington, D.C. – The Montclair State volleyball team split a pair of five-set matches to close out its appearance in the Worthington Classic at Gallaudet University on Saturday.
Junior
NATALIA MAJKUT was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Red Hawks (8-8) topped Neumann before falling to the host Bison.
Majkut, sophomore
SCHYLER WHITE and freshman
SIYARA HERBERT each hit double figures in kills as MSU lost the first set to Neumann 25-20 before taking the next two 25-21 and 25-22. After the Knights (8-15) tied the match with a 25-15 victory in the fourth, the Red Hawks captured the decisive set 15-8.
White led MSU with 13 kills while Majkut and Herbert had 12 apiece.
CAITLIN LANGE had nine kills along with four blocks while
JILLIAN WILSON collected seven along with three aces.
ASHLEY GRIFFITH had a double-double of 49 assists and 12 digs. Libero
LILY SCANZILLO posted a team-best 23 digs with Herbert and White reaching double digits in that department with 10 and 12 respectively.
Majkut put up a season-high 17 kills in the loss to Gallaudet. After dropping the first set 25-23, Montclair won the next two 25-23 and 25-20. The Bison (11-9), who finished 4-0 in the tournament forced the final set with a 25-22 win in the fourth before capturing the match with a 15-10 win in the fifth.
Herbert had 11 kills with Wilson and White going for nine and eight respectively. Lange added six along with another four blocks. Griffith totaled 50 assists along with 15 digs. Scanzillo registered 30 digs with Herbert adding 17 and White 13.
APRIL DIANGELO chipped in with 10.
Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, October 3 in Glassboro, NJ against Rowan University. First serve of the NJAC match is set for 7:00 pm.
