Montclair, NJ – St. Lawerence University guard Dylan Watkiss scored 12 points with forward Katie Frederick adding 11 as the Saints slipped past Montclair State 46-44 in the Rose City Classic at the Panzer Athletic Center on Saturday evening.
Chelsea Van Tassel added eight points and six rebounds for SLU (2-0), which will face Albertus Magnus College in the championship game on Sunday, November 18 at 2:00 pm. The Red Hawks (1-1) will take on Drew University in the third-place game at 12:00 pm.

KIM CALLOWAY finished with 12 points for Montclair.
The Red Hawks led 13-9 after one quarter and were in front 14-13 with 7:09 left in the second when the Saints took the lead on Erin Kumler's basket with six minutes to go before halftime. She added two from the line for a 19-15 advantage before MSU swung the lead back in its favor on a layup by Calloway with 1:11 left making the score 20-19. Chelsea Van Tassel answered at the other end and hit from short range with 36 ticks as St. Lawrence led 23-20 at the break.
St. Lawrence stayed on top through the third quarter taking a 29-28 lead into the final 10 minutes. Van Tassel's layup put the Saints up 36-31 with 6:16 left and two free throws by Marlee Gunn got the lead to 39-33 with three minutes to play.
Montclair would cut the lead to two points twice the last coming a 41-39 after
ALEX MCKINNON scored on a layup with 65 seconds remaining. Gunn answered with two free throws and a make by Van Tassel with 22 seconds made the score 44-39. Calloway drove in for a layup with 12 seconds left making it's a one-possession game 44-41. Frederick made two free throws to boost the lead back to 46-41 with inside 10 seconds however MSU gave itself a chance as
TAYLOR BROWN hit for three with three seconds pulling within 46-44.
But the Saints were able to run off the final ticks for the victory.
Van Tassel had eight points and six rebounds for St. Lawrence with Kumler netting seven point along with a pair of caroms. McKinnon had eight points and five rebounds for Montclair State with freshman Rylee Mullign getting nine points off the bench. Brown and
DOMONIQUE WIRSING totaled five points and six rebounds apiece.
