Wirsing Double-Double Paces Red Hawks Over Brooklyn, 67-50

Senior Scores 17, Grabs 14 Boards as MSU Wins Second Straight

Montclair, NJ – Senior forward DOMONIQUE WIRSING posted a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds as Montclair State picked up its second straight victory with a 67-50 win at Brooklyn College on Friday evening.

Sophomore guard TAYLOR BROWN added 16 points and eight rebounds helping the Red Hawks up their record to 9-2 on the season. Chanel Jemmott posted 15 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, who fell to 3-4.

The Red Hawks netted the first basket of the game but a three-pointer by Alexandra Moogan answered with a three giving Brooklyn College what turned out to be its only lead of the contest at 3-2. MSU responded with the next eight points. Wirsing put Montclair on top with a layup with Brown hitting from behind the arc. KIM CALLOWAY also hit a three giving the Red Hawks a 10-3 lead with 5:43 left.

Montclair State led 14-10 heading into the second and maintained its four-point lead until late in the quarter when Brown scored five straight including a three with 1:27 to go widening the advantage to 25-15.

Brooklyn cut its deficit to 29-25 in the middle of the third period however ALEX MCKINNON drained a three and Calloway finished off a break to extend the lead to nine points. Wirsing, who also recorded three blocks, put the lead into double digits (36-25) with 5:18 remaining. Wirsing's three-point play with 23 seconds left sent the Red Hawks into the fourth quarter with a 47-30 advantage.

McKinnon and Calloway had eight points apiece and combined for five rebounds. Freshman JULIA SUTTON chipped in with six points while CERYS MACLELLAND added four points, five rebounds and four assists. Montclair outrebounded Brooklyn College 44-28, grabbing 16 offensive rebounds.

The Red Hawks are off until Wednesday, December 19 when it faces Wisconsin Lutheran University in the St. Petersburg Classic in Florida at 3pm. It will be the first of two games as MSU will take on Albright College on December 20 at 1:00 pm.
