Women's Lacrosse Rolls to Second Straight Win, 16-6

Orban Four Goals, Mahlstadt Three in Win Over Muhlenberg

Montclair, NJ – Senior attack CHELSEA ORBAN scored four times while MEGAN MAHLSTADT added three along with an assist as Montclair State captured its second straight victory with a 16-6 win over Muhlenberg College at Sprague Field on Saturday.

Sophomore SYDNEE SAPP added three goals as the Red Hawks squared their record at 3-3 on the season. Amanda Tullo had three goals for Mulhenberg (2-2), which dropped its second straight. MSU also took a 5-3 lead in the all-time series between the schools.

JESSICA ANDREULA and Orban each scored early giving Montclair a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the contest. Tullo cut the lead in half on a free-position attempt with 20:43 to play before the Red Hawks found the back of the net six times over the next 10 minutes.

KYLE GRAVER started the run finishing off a feed from Mahlstadt who then scored with 15:45 left making the score 4-1. Graver added her second a minute later and goals by MORGAN CONNON and Sapp extended the lead to 7-1. Mahlstadt added the final goal with 10:05 left giving MSU a seven-goal cushion.

Tullo ended the run with her second goal and Jordy Bonvini's score with 6:59 left trimmed the lead back to 8-3 however MICHAELAH REYNOLDS found Sapp with 18 seconds left for a goal giving Montclair State a 9 -3 lead at halftime.

BRITTANY COSTIGAN opened the scoring for MSU in the second half which was matched by Tullo's goal with 26:28 remaining. The Red Hawks put the game away with a four-goal run for a 14-4 advantage. Orban had the last two with Connon and Sapp each netting one.

Costigan had another outstanding day registering her second consecutive contest with 10 draws while Sapp added two draws, four caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. LEANNE MCCLOSKEY, Mahlstadt, EMERLINE TABARES and goalkeeper AMANDA MAGUIRE each forced a pair of turnovers. Maguire finished with 12 saves.

Montclair State is now off for the next eight days until it hosts The College at Brockport on Sunday, March 25 at noon.
