Montclair, NJ – Designated hitter Christian Bilan went 2-for-3 and drove in six runs as York College held off Montclair State 7-5 at Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
Grant Olberholtzer also drove in a run as the Spartans improved to 16-14-1 on the season. Sophomore
IAN LYNCH belted a two-run home run for Red Hawks (19-15).
York grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first as Bilan lofted a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Olberholtzer. Freshman designated hitter
ANDREW OLLWERTHER tied the game in the fourth with an RBI single however York answered with four runs in the top of the fifth. Olberholtzer drove in the first run with a sac fly before Bilan delivered a bases-clearing single for a 5-1 lead.
Rightfielder
CONNOR KELLY singled home Lynch in the fifth cutting the deficit to 5-2 but Bilan again came through for the Spartans in the seventh with a two-run single pushing the lead back to 7-2. Lynch blasted a two-run homer in the eighth and
KYLE MISSRY followed with an RBI single as MSU trimmed the lead to 7-5.
But that would be a close as MSU would get as reliever Aaron Ross got the final out of the eighth inning and then pitched a scoreless ninth to register his first save of the season. Jeff Noss (1-0) for the victory as he went the first 5 2/3 innings allowing seven hits and two runs with seven strikeouts.

NICK COCCHIA (2-2) took the loss for the Red Hawks. Lynch finished 3-for-5 while
HAYDEN REYES, Ollwerther and
AIDAN SUPP had two hits apiece.
Montclair State is back in action on Thursday, April 26 hosting Ramapo College in an NJAC matchup at Yogi Berra Stadium beginning at 3:30 pm. It will be the first of a home-and-home series between the two as they will square off again on Friday, April 27 in Mahwah, NJ.
