OLIVIA PRUSAKOWSKI added a goal late as Montclair State opened its season with a 2-0 victory over St. John Fisher in the Haverford Kick Off Classic on Saturday afternoon.
EMMA MCLAUGHLIN and
EMILY DEGEYTER posted an assist apiece as the Red Hawks advanced to the championship game on Sunday, September 2 against Arcadia University at 1:30 pm.
The Red Hawks outshot the Cardinals 12-4 in the contest and got on the board in the 16
th minute. DeGeyter served a cross from the endline to Knoblock, who finished off the feed for what turned out to be the only goal MSU would need in the game.
Held to one shot in the opening 45 minutes, St. John Fisher got a chance to tie the game early in the second half as Carli Kovarik sent a shot on the goal that was snared by MSU keeper
LINDSAY FREEWALT. Moments later the Red Hawks got their opportunity but Melissa McGowan came up with a save against Knoblock keeping the score at 1-0.
In the 69
th minute, the Red Hawks came within inches of a two-goal advantage however a shot by
EMILY BEENDERS clanged off the crossbar.
Prusakowski added an insurance goal with 4:30 left heading in a corner kick service from McLaughlin. Freewalt made a save a minute later preserving her first career shutout.
