EMILY BEENDERS recorded her first career hat trick scoring three times as Montclair State extended its winning streak to three with a 4-1 victory at Mount St. Mary College on Monday evening.
Freshman
MADISON MARTINO added a goal for the Red Hawks, who are now 4-0-1 on the season. Gina Rivera scored for the Knights, who fell to 2-3-1 on the season.
Martino gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead at the 13:12 mark. Senior
ASHLEY KOESTER slid a ball through from five yards out over to Martino who finished off the pass for her first career goal.
Beenders would get the first of her three goals in the 21
st minute as she knocked in a cross from freshman
EMILY DEGEYTER making the score 2-0. Montclair, which outshot the Knights 6-0 in the first half took the two-goal advantage into halftime.
Rivera cut the deficit in half in the 60
th minute converting a penalty kick. Goalkeeper
LINDSAY FREEWALT, the NJAC Rookie of the Week, made a save three minutes later to keep MSU in front and the Red Hawks would add to its lead scoring twice in a span of 2:40.
Beenders netted both, the first off a corner kick at 76:56 with
MICHAELA KNOBLOCK and Catherine Carnavale picking up assists. Knoblock got the helper on the final goal serving a ball into the box that Beenders collected and flipped inside the right post making the score 4-1.
Freewalt finished with two saves for the Red Hawks, who outshot Mount St. Mary 12-4 in addition to taking six of the eight corner kicks in the contest.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, September 15 with its New Jersey Athletic Conference opener. MSU heads to Camden, NJ to face Rutgers-Camden at 1:00 pm.
